Kim Sullivan, office administrator

Hello, my name is Kim Sullivan and I am the Office Administrator at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

Upon graduation from Mount Saint Vincent University with a major in Marketing and a minor in Psychology I began my career in the technology field working for a startup internet service provider. When my job moved to Ottawa I chose to stay in Nova Scotia and start looking for another career path. Fortunately, I had time to do some soul searching about what I would like to do next. When I found the Maritime Business College’s Veterinary Assistant program in 1997 I knew I was well on my way to doing what I always loved – working with and caring for animals. I started at a local veterinary hospital in 1997 to perform my practical training and worked my way from Veterinary Assistant to Practice Manager over the 12 years I was there. I enthusiastically joined Complete Care Hospital for Pets, in an administrative role, in October 2009 when I saw the uncompromising dedication to patient care and customer service offered by Dr. Larkin and the team.

My husband and I live in Dartmouth with our young son, three cats and one crazy Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. (Just a tip, don’t name your dog “Dodger” unless you want a dog who truly lives up to the name! I’m calling my next dog “Calm”).

Although I’ll be in the admin office most of the time, expect me to pop my head out and say hi to your pets and shake their paw.

Cheryl Stewar, customer service technicianHello, my name is Cheryl Stewart and I am a Customer Service technician at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

I was born and raised in Louisbourg, NS. I currently reside in Head of Chezzetcook, NS with my husband Michael, my son Christopher, my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Yogi Em and Boo Bear, my two cats, Oliver and Beanue, my two ferrets, Get’em and Oops, my two rescued Standardbred horses, Meggie Mae and Henry and my miniature horse, DJ. I have been actively involved in the care of animals, both wild and domestic, for most of my life. I have worked for the SPCA and volunteered for many years for Hope for Wildlife. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends (including my furry ones), reading, doing Soduko puzzles, and relaxing on my deck in my little piece of heaven. I plan to complete my Veterinary Technician course in the near future.

Amanda denHollander, RVTHello, my name is Amanda denHollander and I am a Registered Veterinary Technician at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

I graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with honours in May 2009. I was born & raised in the Annapolis Valley, and I currently reside in Lake Echo with my fiancé, 2 cats Willow & Felix, and 2 dogs Bear & Roxy. I enjoy spending time with my family (including the 4-legged members) & friends, as well as spending time outdoors (swimming, walking, etc.). Although I love all aspects of veterinary medicine, I have a special interest in behaviour, which I plan to pursue in the future.

Rebecca Hawes, RVT

Hi There! My name is Rebecca Hawes and I am a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

I am a recent grad from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College Veterinary Technician program with honours, and I also hold a Bachelors of Science degree from Mount Allison University. I was born and raised in Middle Musquodoboit and currently reside in Truro, NS. Hopefully that will change soon as my boyfriend and I are looking for a home in the Porters Lake area. I have a strong passion for animals, medicine and I love to learn. In my spare time I enjoy doing anything crafty, photography, and traveling. I have a special interest in anesthesia and dentistry and in the future I hope to specialize in one of these fields.

Hello, my name is Karen and I am a student with the Maritime Business College.
Hello, my name is Karen and I am a Veterinary assistant at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

I was born and raised in Lawrencetown Nova Scotia and have recently graduated from the Maritime Business College (June 2010).  I enjoy leisurely walks, visiting my family in Cape Breton,  spending time with my boyfriend Scott and our four-legged companions: our dog Tucker and our cat Cola.  Athough I love working with small animals and am learning new things every day, I do have a special interest in horses.  In the future, I hope to specialize in equine massage therapy.

Dr. Kyra LarkinHello, my name is Dr. Kyra Larkin and I am the owner and practicing veterinarian of Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

Growing up in Lower Sackville, I was a horse-loving girl who desperately wanted to have one in the backyard. My parents disapproved since we weren’t permitted to have horses in the city and they expressed concerns about the cost of veterinary care. This prompted me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

I completed my BSc in Agriculture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1990 and graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1994. My career started in the Annapolis Valley, where I met my husband, Tom. When we married in Hurricane Hortense (September 1996) we had an instant family of 4 dogs, which was the reason for us meeting.

Before starting a family, I was an avid horseback rider for many years and was awarded the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation Senior Athlete of the Month in July 2000 for my efforts in one day eventing. I put riding on hold to raise a family and now Tom and I are blessed with a son (William, 8 years old) and a daughter (Jessica, 6 years old). We now reside in Porter’s Lake and I have returned to riding but I am looking forward to building a barn at home to continue on with my passion.

My special interests include rehabilitation and natural energy medicine including acupuncture, chiropractic and magnetic therapy. In the near future I am planning to become trained in acupuncture to be able to offer it to my patients.

Dr. Joy PresceskyHello, my name is Dr. Joy Prescesky and I am an associate veterinarian at Complete Care Hospital for Pets.

Born in Montreal, QC, I spent the bulk of my childhood in Hampton NB. It was in this little town that I developed the desire to become a veterinarian. In elementary school, I spent my Saturday mornings cleaning kennels and observing appointments. This soon led to a job as a weekend kennel attendant during high school. Upon graduation in 1993, I moved with my family to Wolfville, N.S.  I graduated from Acadia University in 1997 with a BScH in biology and an MSc (Bacteriology) in 2000 from Queen’s University. From there, I fulfilled my dream of becoming a veterinarian when I graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2003.

I now reside in Dartmouth with my wonderful husband Jay and my three energetic children: Zach (7 years old), Noah (5 years old) and Rhiannon (2 years old). Since meeting my husband, I have developed a love for the game of hockey. I continue to play myself and help to coach both of my sons. I also enjoy reading, singing and spending time with my girlfriends (usually with a kid in tow!).

My special interests include writing and creating documents/handouts for our clinic (including our website) and general surgery. In the future, I would like to become trained to perform ultrasounds.
